Recently I got my very first suit from Suitsupply; a wildly popular brand amongst menswear influencers, young people, and the style conscious men of our day.
So how did my experience with this premier brand go? I’ll tell you all about it in today’s post.
Spoiler Alert: My conclusion may not be what you’d expect!
The Suit
- Model -Havana
- Size – 44L
- Style – Double -Breasted w/ Pinstripe
- Color – Dark Grey
- Material – Pure 110’s Wool sourced from Vitale Baberis Canonico, Italy
- Price – $649 from Suitsupply
Long time subscribers and readers of the blog know that I believe in :
In other words,to regularly pay full price for all items is poor money management.
You’re not stretching your dollars far enough if you do this.
Wealthy and famous people often get stuff for free as a part of a brand deal or sponsorship.
Brands see this as a business opportunity to have someone of their influence wearing their company’s clothes.
And for the rest of us, the least we can do is get high quality items at budget friendly prices (aka on sale). But don’t take my word for it, just look below.
What I Paid For This Suit
The difference between what Suitsupply charges for this suit online, and what I paid for it on eBay is $474.18.
Thats a significant difference. The money I didn’t spend (by paying retail) could now potentially be put towards:
- Investments
- Savings
- A vacation
- Giving
- 6 month emergency fund
This all leads me to my next point of why I haven’t bought anything from Suitsupply until now.
This Is Why I Don’t Own More From Suitsupply
The price.
Read this next line very carefully.
$649 for a suit is simply more than I’m willing to pay.
Without a doubt there is value in this suit because of its craftsmanship, materials, and overall quality.
But I don’t value suits enough to spend my money on them. All that I am saying is that a suit at this price point isn’t worth it to me.
I want to teach something here that Minimalist believe in and that is to:
And Why Do I Wear Suits Anyway?
The reason why I even own suits to begin with is primarily because of my attendance to church.
I always wear a suit every service. If it wasn’t for that however, I’d probably only own 2 suits. A navy for weddings, and a gray for funerals.
When I got real about why I wear suits, and how often I actually wear them it helped me better understand where I should and shouldn’t be spending my money.
I wear suits about 3 times a week because that’s how often we have service at my church.
On rare occasions I’ll wear a suit to have dinner with my wife.
In contrast, I wear sunglasses just about everyday. If it’s daytime and I’m outside or driving, I’ve got sunglasses on.
The almost daily wear of sunglasses means I get much more use out of my glasses as opposed to any particular suit.
Plus I just like those sunglasses more. They are probably the favorite item in my wardrobe, and everyone just looks better in sunglasses!
Conclusion
Suitsupply suits are definitely high quality suits. I’d easily rank this suit as the best one in my wardrobe as well as the one most flattering on me.
Suitsupply isn’t the most affordable option for most people, but if you are willing to save up and buy versatile colors, it’s a option worth considering.
As for me, I’ll stick with thrifting and shopping on places like eBay, Poshmark, and Grailed.
Until next time, yall have a good one.
