As most of you know I’m a Minimalist in many ways including my style. Today I’ll be doing a breakdown of one of my current looks.
Since we at A Step Above Style value your time (and because you already know why you’re here) we’ll jump right in.
Let’s begin.

But Before We Start…
Pro Tip : You should surround yourself with people who routinely give their best.
One of the main reasons I aim to dress well is because of my wife. I want to always look my best when I’m with her in private or in public.
This is not just a expectation for me as a individual, but for us as a couple.
“Right-quick outfits attract right-quick people”.
ASAS Words Of Wisdom
Because a hoodie and Croc’s just won’t do.
What I’m Wearing
- Jacket – Gap Denim Jacket
- Shirt – BYLT Basics Shirt
- Pants – Target Chinos in black
- Shoes – New Balance 327
- Watch – Apple Watch Ultra
Note: The jacket I’m wearing in this photo was actually given to me by close friend, and member of the ASAS Community , Tony Gonzalez!
You can read our interview with him here.

I know him personally, and consider him the “Jacket King” as he always has a fly jacket on!
Style Breakdown
When getting dressed, I typically pick the shoes first. All of my shoes are comfortable, so I never have to pick based on that factor.
Once I pick the shoes, my pants are next. I have pants in black, brown, olive, and regular denim jeans. My pants in some way will always go with my shoes.
Next is the shirt. Naturally, I pick a shirt that goes with both the shoes and pants. I have about 8 solid colored shirts from BYLT. I love that they are solid and the branding is minimal.
“The older I get the less I enjoy wearing clothes with large branding displayed. No free advertising here. I choose not to be a walking billboard for someone else’s company”.
Since I’ve purchased it, my Apple Watch Ultra has been my only casual watch. The battery life is great, it’s super durable, and provides a ton of functionality. I always wear it with the Midnight Ocean strap it came with.
Lastly is my jacket. The one pictured here is made of a high quality denim in a Minimalist’ favorite color; black. I love this jacket for its many pockets, and sleek, modern looks. This one was a gift, but a great jacket is something I’d pay well for.
Conclusion
Hopefully this post has given you a bit of insight into what I think when getting dressed for casual settings.
My capsule wardrobe allows me to get dressed in under 10 minutes , while also having lots of options to work with.
If I can leave any advice with you today it’s this:
- Keep your shoes clean
- Wear a high quality jacket whenever possible
