Have you heard of the style technique referred to as “High-Low”?
This is a technique that pairs pieces you normally wouldn’t see together such as double breasted jackets and chinos or blazers and jeans.
The reason many people are drawn to this look is because of comfort. It’s a great way to look sharp without having to sacrifice on comfort or wearability.
Since we at A Step Above Style value your time (and because you already know why you’re here) we’ll jump right in.
Let’s begin.

What Is High-Low?

It is a technique that involves mixing formal and informal wardrobe pieces.
This technique pairs pieces you normally wouldn’t see together such as double breasted jackets and chinos or blazers and jeans.
This technique isn’t limited to just clothes however. It also extends to accessories as shown in our picture above.
Often times it’s the “statement piece” that ends up being the “High” in these outfits, while the rest of the look falls into the “Low” category.
Benefits

- Get more from your wardrobe – Rather than buy new clothes, find new ways to wear your existing pieces
- Practicality – You get to craft the look that makes sense for the weather in your area, the event you are going to, etc.
- The Challenge – As we are all at various places on our style journey, we have different levels of understanding of “what works together”. Take this technique as a challenge to come up with new and cool outfits

- How To Declutter Your Closet Without Throwing Away Clothes You Still LoveCloset decluttering is often presented as a dramatic event. Remove everything. Create a giant pile. Keep only a small number of items. Get rid of the rest. That approach may work for some people, but it can also make decluttering feel unnecessarily harsh. You should not have to discard clothing you genuinely love simply because…
- Blog Bites – Keep the Memory Without Keeping Every ObjectSentimental possessions can be some of the most difficult things to release. An old shirt may remind you of someone you love. A box of schoolwork may represent your child’s early years. A souvenir may take you back to an important trip. The object may no longer be useful, but the memory attached to it…
- Underconsumption or Just Real Life? Why Using What You Own Is Trending AgainA nearly empty bottle of lotion. A pair of shoes that has been repaired instead of replaced. The same outfit worn repeatedly. A phone kept long after a newer model became available. These ordinary choices now have a social media label: “underconsumption core.” The trend gained attention as people began sharing repaired clothing, well-used possessions,…
- Is Your Side Hustle Actually Making You Money?Side hustles are often discussed as if every dollar earned is additional income. You make $1,000 selling products online. You earn $500 driving on the weekends. You collect $2,000 from freelance clients. Those numbers may sound impressive. But revenue is not the same as profit. The money coming in does not tell you how much…

Perhaps it was an app you planned to use, a streaming service you wanted for one show, or a fitness program that seemed helpful at the time. You entered your payment information and moved on. Months later, you may have forgotten that the service exists. Your…
