The first day of the fall season is scheduled to begin between September 22 or 23rd of this year.
And before it gets here I thought it may be fun to reflect on some of my most worn (or most used items during this summer season.
Continue reading below to check out the items I kept on me during another Texas summer, and I hope you enjoy the stories behind each of them!
#1: Adidas Snapback
I believe I bought this hat at a Ross retail store. My idea was to find a hat that was adjustable, dark in color, and made of a performance fabric to endure any sweating that could occur.
This hat checked all my boxes and accompanied me on many occasions such as:
- Summer trip to Utah for hiking
- Saturday adventures with my wife
- Casual Fridays at work
- Grocery store trips and errands around town
This was a great (and affordable) purchase that I continue to get lots of wear from.
Pro Tip: When I don’t get a chance to see my barber, I wear this hat even more often!
#2: Apple Watch Ultra
This watch was admittedly expense. For the price of a new phone, I instead purchased this watch.
It’s a watch I never would’ve owned if not for a work project that landed me in Metropolis, Illinois.
Most of the people working inside of this nuclear facility (yes it actually was a nuclear facility) weren’t allowed to bring in their cell phones. Because I unfortunately was in that group of people, I couldn’t have my phone on me all day long.
Not being able to talk to my wife during the day (and being away from her for 3 months due to work) was driving me crazy.
My solution? Drive to the nearest Apple store in Nashville, Tennessee and buy an Apple Watch!
I equipped it with the cellular option and now I could “secretly” stay in contact with my wife who was approximately 759 mile away (12 hour drive).
Did I talk to my wrist a lot to send messages and make calls? Yes. Did I get to talk to my sweetheart more often? Also yes!
When I’m not at church, this is always the watch on my wrist. I use it for:
- Working out
- Tracking hikes and outdoor walks
- My alarm to wake me up in the morning
- Keeping up with my schedule at work
- Telling the time of course!
#3: Jaque Marie Mage Sunglasses
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I LOVE a well designed pair of glasses. As I currently don’t have a need for prescription glasses, the kinds of glasses I wear are :
- Blue Light
- Sunglasses
The above pair are from Los Angeles based brand Jaque Marie Mage. As a Minimalist, I thought it would be wise to buy the exact glasses I wanted as opposed to “cheaping out”.
I went to the Eye Gallery of Houston and purchased this beautiful pair. They are exquisite in every detail, and I always look forward to the weekend when I get to wear them.
These are a great way to fight the bright summer sun and look great while doing it.
I encourage all ASAS readers to invest in a pair of sunglasses that you love to wear.
Pro Tip: Because everyone looks better in sunglasses.
*Bonus*
This knife was another purchase made in the name of Minimalism.
My idea behind this purchase was “buy a knife you’ll always be proud of carrying, and one that won’t easily be beaten by what’s on a store shelf”.
I am happy to report that after more than a year after buying this knife, I haven’t purchased another one since.
This knife has been used for:
- Opening mail
- Cutting ropes, zip ties, and fishing line
- Opening packages from Amazon
- Slicing fruit during lunch
- Fending off wildebeests in the Serengeti
If you are a man and don’t yet carry a pocket knife….well just don’t tell anybody.
The knife you buy doesn’t have to be fancy, but I would highly recommend picking up one soon.
I would venture to say I am asked if I have a knife about as often as I am asked by someone to borrow my pen. (You should carry both by the way).
Conclusion
