The 2023 Fall season is finally upon us, and now we get to use a part of our wardrobe that was once forgotten.
Today we are going to share 5 items that we believe you should have in your wardrobe for the season.
Some are functional, others are stylish, but all will allow you to enjoy this special time of year in the best way possible.
Let’s begin.
1. A Statement Piece Jacket
A jacket has a unique power to it. Especially one that makes a bold statement.
A expensive looking or high quality jacket gives the impression that everything else you are wearing is also first class.
Finding a jacket with a unique print, high quality material, or a great fit to your body is a great way to make a statement.
Since it will be cool in the evenings, this is a item you will get lots of use out of.
Don’t be tempted to buy lots of jackets with many unique prints. Also don’t buy fast fashion clothes that will fall apart by the season’s end.
What will make this jacket special is that it’s the only one of its kind in your closet. It doesn’t have to be some wild color or out of this world pattern, but something that when you wear it you feel good in it.
My statement jacket is actually just a brown leather coat. On the outside it looks very plain. But it’s made from a super supple leather that keeps me warm on cold evenings. It’s also made by a well known brand.
(Retail for a jacket like this is…let’s just say pricey. But yall know I got it at the thrift store so we all good!)
Additionally, it has pockets on the inside that allow me to easily carry some of my most useful items.
It’s always a treat when I get to wear it!
2. Fall-Scented Cologne
There are certain scents that call to mind the fall season. Scents such as:
- Bergamot.
- Cedarwood.
- Cinnamon bark.
- Ginger.
- Lemon.
Pro Tip: Take a Friday or Saturday evening to go to your local department store like Dillard’s or Macy’s.
Get samples of the colognes you’re interested in, and see how they respond to being sprayed on your skin. Then write down which ones you like.
It may take 20-30+ minutes of your time, but you’ll find a scent (or two) that you can wear year over year.
Pro Tip #2 : Go for the Eau De Parfum option when available. It has the highest concentration of fragrance, but also comes at a higher price tag.
3. Pocket Knife
We spoke about pocket knives in a recent post and how we think every guy should carry one.
Knives offer several solutions to everyday problems such as:
- Opening packages and mail
- Cutting loose threads on clothes
- Taking off small stickers
- Scraping off “mystery” substances
- Slicing up fruit such as apples
As you’ll likely be outside more in the fall chances are you’ll need a tool to help face Mother Nature.
Whether it’s bonfires, hiking trips, or just walking the dog, you’ll likely need a pocket knife at some point.
4. Leather Boots
There’s something about leather that tugs at the heart of every man.
Having a durable pair of footwear in the form of leather boots is a no-brainer.
I prefer leather dress boots like these from Allen Edmonds, but you can choose any you like. Think:
- Cowboy boots
- Chelsea boots
- Chukka boots
- Etc.
Shoes such as these will do well no matter what the weather throws at you. On top of that, they’ll keep your feet warm!
Pro Tip: Pair boots with tall, thick socks. I recommend looking for socks specifically named “boot socks”.
5. Leather Bag
It’s no wonder why many men reach for leather products during the fall as the brown color of leather items reminds us of trees, and their changing leaves.
But not only are leather items great for the fall, but they are also useful all year round. Consider your leather bag as a “carry-all” or something you can put all your gear into.
This is something you can keep stocked with all your EDC (Every Day Carry) items, and keep with you at the office, in the car, and on the go.
Here’s a brief list of what I keep in my bag :
- Protein bars
- Beef Jerky
- Gum
- First aid kit
- Pen & notebook
- Knife
- Flashlight
- Grooming kit
Your bag doesn’t have to reflect my exact list, but customize it to fit your needs. If you’re a father of 3 for example, it’ll look a lot different.
