Today I’d thought it would be interesting to share with you a outfit I wore for my wife’s 26th birthday.
Additionally, there is a lesson I’d like to teach on building an enduring wardrobe. There is a proper way to do it, and I’ll show examples below.
My outfit was very actually very simple, yet attracted several compliments from the employees at the restaurant throughout our evening together.
(In reality I just needed my wife to be impressed with the look! Anyways, back to the blog).
So my goal today is to show you how less can be more if you go about it the right way.

The Lesson
In a effort to dress well while also being wise with my money, I spend a lot of time researching each part of my wardrobe.
Each item listed above was carefully researched before I ever considered making a purchase. I learn more about brands through :
- Conducting a Google search
- Reading reviews
- YouTube videos
- Word of mouth references from friends
- Going to the store when possible and putting my hands on the item in question
My goal is to find certain items that are truly well made so that they can last for a long time, because the longer they last, the better my investment was.
One way that companies get people to buy their expensive products is by making the claim :
But allow me to shed some light on this marketing strategy.
Yes. Some items are made so well and from premium materials that they will in fact last for years and years.
No. You don’t need a wardrobe full of things that will last you a lifetime. Everything you own shouldn’t have cost you a arm and a leg.
I’ll explain.
How many times have we heard about a woman saving her wedding dress for her daughter?
The dress was expensive, made with great materials, and if properly cared for, could in fact last for years.
Unfortunately, there are many unknown factors in this hypothetical scenario. Such as:
- If you don’t already have kids when you’re mafried, what if you don’t have a girl?
- What if your daughter doesn’t like the dress you bought 20+ years ago?
- What if she can’t fit the dress?
These are just a few examples of why spending a lot of money for “something that will last a lifetime” isn’t always a good idea.
However there is a time and place for making these types of investment purchases. Let’s discuss that next.
How To Make A Investment Purchase
Below are factors to consider when buying something expensive that you hope will last for a long time.
- Timeless design (always in style)
- In a versatile color such as black, brown, or any color that pairs well with your skin tone
- Something that has utility such as a purse, briefcase, or watch
- Something that will align with your future self’s needs (i.e. a pair of glasses in quality frames because your future self will probably still be wearing glasses)
Conclusion
Hopefully this blog post has given you a idea of what to look for when it comes to building an enduring wardrobe.
It’s great to have things that will last, and now you know what things to specifically look for in each item.
Take your time building your wardrobe, and enjoy the journey.
Until next time, yall have a good one.
