Today I will be reviewing what is actually my first luxury purchase ; a pair of sunglasses by world- renowned eyewear maker Jacques Marie Mage.
Product
- KAINE
- Color-Argyle
Price
$720.00
Key Features
- Limited production batch of 400 pieces worldwide
- 10mm cured cellulose acetate frame
- Custom double laminated acetate temples
- CR 39 Lens -Provides an optical quality that is almost as good as glass at half the weight. It is also much more resistant to shattering than glass and very scratch resistant.
- 4 base lens, backside has anti-reflective treatment (Note: Generally speaking the more expensive the glasses the more likely they are to have several layers of coatings on their lenses).
- 100% UV Protection
Pros
- Exclusivity– only 400 pairs of this exact pair of sunglasses exist worldwide. This means each store will only get a small handful. Once they are gone, they are gone.
- Premium Materials – Per their website : “To create frames of incomparable quality, we utilize the finest cellulose acetate: a renewable, non-petroleum, plant-based material that is durable, attractive, and hypoallergenic”.
- Craftsmanship – JMM sunglasses are handmade in Japan by nearly 100 artisans over the course of 18 months. The process of making each pair consists of 300 steps.
- Warranty – Valid one year from date of purchase and covers any part defective in materials or manufacturing. Such things will be replaced at no charge.
- Brown Lenses –Good for everyday use and most outdoor activities. These lenses help cut through glare and reduce eyestrain with minimal distortion.
Cons
- Availability-Unless you live near a major city, it may be difficult to try these on in person before making a purchase. In Texas for example the only stores that sale these are located in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin.
- Price– The cost of these glasses will prove to be a “barrier to entry” for the average consumer. Most people would rather pay their mortage than have a single pair of sunglasses. If these were more affordable(relatively speaking), more people would be able to experience them.
Who This Product Is For
This product is for the man or woman who can truly appreciate quality and craftsmanship that Jacques Marie Mage puts into their products.
These glasses are for the type of person who doesn’t want to look like everyone else. From their signature arrowhead, to the contour of their frames, you’ll definitely stand out wearing these.
Lastly, these glasses are for those “in the know“. JMM sunglasses are in a realm beyond Ray-Ban, Oakley, Costa, Gucci, Cartier, and others.
How so you ask?
Because rather than investing their money into huge marketing campaigns to put their name in front of everyone and their mama, they instead direct that money into their product.
Jacque Marie Mage spends the necessary money to have their products handmade in Japan and go through a 300 step process.
This is how they separate themselves from others in the eyewear industry.
Who This Product Is Not For
If you aren’t really into sunglasses I wouldn’t recommend this product to you. $720.00 is too much to spend on something that doesn’t really interest you.
These glasses are also not for the “I’ll wait till they go on sale” shopper. As mentioned above, they have quite the hefty price tag.
And if you’re waiting for a 50% off BOGO deal then you’ll be waiting for the rest of your life. Companies like these don’t really do sales and coupons.
Lastly these are not for the man or woman who is known to be hard or negligent with their sunglasses. No matter how a pair of glasses are made you simply cannot treat them in a reckless manner.
Additionally, these are too expensive to be forgetful about. If you got a pair of these glasses I’d also recommend getting a sunglasses strap to help you keep track of them.
Remember, you don’t want to leave that mortgage payment just anywhere!
Conclusion
I must say I’m very happy with my purchase of these Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses.
To me you can see a difference in them (compared to others) just by looking at the shape of the frames. The contour and shape are a true work of art.
Admittedly, I’m not someone who likes to have the same thing everyone else does either. So the exclusivity of these glasses made them that much more appealing to me.
As a minimalist, this was one way I chose to spend the money that I save in other areas of my life. There are many benefits to having a budget and being creative in the ways you earn money.
One of those benefits is simultaneously enjoying well-made products and still sticking to your budget.
In closing I encourage you to handle a pair of JMM frames, if ever given the chance. I guarantee you’ll see the difference for yourself .
Until next time Gents!
