Quick question: How might your perception of the police officers (pictured above) have been different if their shirts were untucked?
Imagine: You’re facing some sort of emergency, and you dial 911 for the police.

The 911 operator takes your call, and assures you help is on the way. You are told to stay calm and in a safe place.
Suddenly, you hear sirens approaching and see flashing lights. A car squeals to a stop in front of you, and out steps the officer.

Without even thinking about it your eyes scan over the policeman. You see the badge, his firearm, handcuffs, and his untucked shirt.
Wait what??
One thing we know and respect most about our men and women in blue is the formality of their uniforms. A untucked shirt would quickly be noticed by anyone in any situation.

But what does all this have to do with you and I? I’m so glad you asked.
A tucked in shirt is a tool that can benefit anyone when utilized properly. Below I’ll detail 3 things I personally learned about tucked in shirts as I got older.

Number 1 : Instant Boost To Self-Confidence
By now everyone knows the way we dress has a direct impact on the way we think and view ourselves.
When those police officers get dressed in the morning, something happens in their mind.
They go from John to Officer John.
Their confidence increases with each button they fasten on their shirt. In similar manner their level of self-esteem rises as they put on that badge.
By the time they take that last look in the mirror before heading out the door, they are ready to seize the day.
Number 2: It Commands Respect From Others

There’s something about a tucked in shirt that makes people want to refer to you as “sir” or “ma’am”.
A shirt worn in this manner gives the impression that you are professional in some sort of way.
Just think of people we normally see with their shirts tucked in.
- Presidents
- Lawyers
- Business Executives
- Preachers
- Police
- Managers
- Bankers
- Car Salesman
- Principals
- Pharmacist
- Doctors
- Etc.
Who wouldn’t want to be thought of in a way similar to all of these great people?
Number 3: Not Just For Nerds And Old Folks

This might be the best kept secret in all the world.
Have you ever noticed how the guy who was the “nerd” in high school ends up being your boss?
Or have you ever wondered how the old guy (who almost always has his shirt tucked in) has had so much financial success?

These people realize one very important thing:
The way I present myself to others has a lot to do with the way I’m perceived by them.
So now that the secret is out, what will you do with this newfound knowledge?
Closing Thoughts
I find myself wearing my shirt tucked in more and more these days. I just appreciate the results I get from doing so.
Kindness, respect, and attention are just a few of the things I receive when I tuck in my shirt.
Subsequently, I’m careful to use people’s attention to return kindness and respect right back to them.
I wear my shirt tucked in at work, at some casual events, and even for family holidays.
Its my desire to be perceived in a certain way, and tucked in shirts help me to achieve that.
What can a tucked in shirt do for you?

Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
Thank you Mark, I plan on giving it my best!
Great topic! Your first impression is what people remember about you. A tucked in shirt, separates you from the pack! Your 3 points are on POINT!
Yes it goes a long way in making a great first impression! So glad you enjoyed this post
This is a great post!!! Youβre right about all 3 points for sure and the one I tend to see very often in my daily life is how it will bring respect and you tend to look at them in a different perspective. Thanks for the food for thought!!ππΌππΌ
