In our Blog Bites series we like to take a bite-sized look at a concept or idea, and leave our readers with some food for thought.
Today we’ll be taking a look at why some people don’t dress their best even when they could do better.
Introduction
There are lots of reasons why people don’t dress their best.
And while I could take time to list all of those reasons out, I can probably sum it up with one sentence.
But there’s also an underlying reason for why they don’t care enough. And that’s what we will briefly be discussing to say.
The Underlying Reason Why
The reason why some don’t consistently dress well is because they don’t see value in each day or every occasion.
In other words:
People with this mentality show up to work on a Monday looking like they rolled right out of a box.
What’s interesting however is that these very same people will dress up super nice on Friday as they prepare to head into the weekend.
They celebrate “No make-up Mondays” and also “Fabulous Fridays” at the office. Their level of appearance goes up and down more than the stock market!
So what’s the big deal?
The big deal is that they have the opportunity to dress well more often, but choose not to. Consider how many people don’t even have “nice” clothes to wear even if they wanted to.
So what does that say about us? What does it say about :
- What we think of our coworkers and peers
- How much we spend on shopping and how often we actually wear those clothes
- How much we respect ourselves
If we don’t present ourselves appropriately to others it’s a subtle way of saying :
Most of us however would dress well for :
- First date
- Job interview
- Meeting a potential business partner
- Anniversary
- Friends wedding
- Etc.
So am I saying you should wear a pinstripe suit to Lil’ Johnny’s 5th birthday party at Chuck-E-Cheese? Of course not!
But I am saying you should consistently dress well. At work, or at play (casual) always look presentable.
People are always watching, and you want to send the right message. Be known for being a put-together, respectable, young adult.
Just some food for thought today. Make the decision each morning to send the right message to others in the way you dress.
It’s not just another day. It’s another opportunity to be the exceptional, and a step above (see what I did there).
Until next time, yall have a good one.
