Do Minimalist enjoy luxury purchases like everyone else?
Yes. A common theme among most Minimalist is buying quality over quantity.
In other words, minimalist would rather buy 1 well-made item instead of 10 items (over a period of time) that are inferior quality.
Although the 10 items may be cheaper initially, in the long run the minimalist actually save money by buying the well-made item.
P.S. Well-made doesn’t always mean expensive.
Anyways, the thought is this. If the well-made item is more expensive, it’s because you are purchasing a product that:
- Works efficiently
- Won’t break down easily
- Will stand the test of time
- Is crafted with high quality materials
- Is made by a reputable manufacturer who stands behind their work via a warranty
So today I’m going to share with you 5 items that fit the criteria above.
But before I get into my list there are a few things I want to make a few things clear.
First, I am including the price I paid for these items. So understand that what I paid is likely different than what the same item goes for at retail now.
Additionally, I’m including that price to be transparent and clear with the Community. It’s not to be tacky or anything like that.
And lastly, I live by the motto of
I get 0% joy out of paying full price. Seriously.
Anyways, with all that out of the way let’s jump into the list and see the 5 purchases that I don’t regret as a minimalist .
1. Apple AirPods Pro
I Paid – $176.00
Retailer – Target
Why I Don’t Regret This
At the time of this writing, I’ve had AirPods for about 3 months. They came out October 30,2019. Safe to say I’m late to the party.
Additionally ,I’ve never owned any other previous model of AirPods before these.
I can’t believe it took me this long. Because these are incredible.
They work seamlessly with my iPhone and iPad, and are a better value to me than over the ear headphones.
As someone who is ALWAYS listening to a podcast, audiobook, or soft jazz instrumentals (when studying), these are priceless to me.
I use these at work, at home, on trips, and while exercising. It would be safe to say I use these every day of the week and twice on Sunday .
A great buy all the way around.
2. Jacque Marie Mage Sunglasses
I Paid -$665.00
Retailer – The Eye Gallery Of Houston
Why I Don’t Regret This
I’ll just come right out and say it. I absolutely love sunglasses, and T his pair changed my whole perspective on the essentiality of having good sunglasses in your wardrobe.
First of all, everybody looks better in sunglasses. Period. Let’s just get that out of the way.
Secondly, every time I pick these up, I marvel at the craftsmanship and details that were put into them.
I’m not just saying it, but these look noticeably different than other pairs of glasses I’ve owned. Some of which include:
- Ray-Bans
- Knockaround
- Privé Revaux
- Oakley
- Tommy Hillfiger
I believe if you’re wanting to protect your eyes from the sun, you may as well look good while you do it. And these knock it out of the park.
This was my first “luxury” purchase, and I actually paid full price for them (unfortunately lol).
The quality is first class and something you just have to see for yourself by holding them or trying them on.
3. Casio G Shock 5173
I Paid – $176.00
Retailer – Amazon
Why I Don’t Regret This
Funny story about this watch. When i first saw it, it was on someone else’s wrist.
Guys will understand that we typically don’t buy the same thing that another man already has.
But I liked it so much, I actually informed the guy I saw wearing it that in a few months I would have a watch identical to his! Talk about bold!
Anyways I really enjoy this watch for several reasons.
- Built like a tank
- Awesome black and yellow color way
- Solar powered
- Super comfortable strap
I work in the oil & gas industry, and this watch handles everything I encounter. I’ve had it for about 8 years now so it’s safe to say it’s got sentimental value to me.
Fun fact: I actually LOVE learning about horology and watches and this is the most I’ve ever spent on one.
Hopefully we keep it that way!
4. Fat Herbie Wallet
I Paid – $100.00
Retailer – Poshmark
Why I Don’t Regret This
I’m very, very picky when it comes to certain things. One of which is my wallet.
I actually searched for approximately 2+ months to find the ideal wallet. I wanted one that:
- Was made of full grain leather
- Was slim enough for front pocket carry
- Had a cash compartment
- Had enough slots to separate/organize my various cards
I wanted a “better” wallet so bad that I actually impulse purchased a Coach wallet at Dillard’s one day. I used it for about a week before giving it away.
But once I purchased the Fat Herbie from Ashland Leather I found what I had been looking for.
This watch checked all the above boxes and is developing a beautiful patina.
A great purchase that I’m glad I made.
5. Ebags Pro Slim Laptop Backpack
I Paid – $100.00
Retailer – Ebags.com
Why I Don’t Regret This
This is one of my favorite possessions without a doubt. As someone who is big on being prepared, having a backpack like this is super important to me.
This backpack has a ton of compartments (some hidden) yet still retains its sleek frame. It’s gray (one of my favorite colors) and always goes everywhere with me.
At any given time there are a variety of things in my backpack . What I have in there depends on the needs of the day, but here are some of the items I’ve stored here in the past :
- Bible
- Nintendo Switch
- AirPods
- Sunglasses
- Small flashlight
- Firearm
- Fountain pen
- Small umbrella
- Candy/ cough drops
- Pocket knife
- Pizza flavored goldfish
- Laptop/iPad
- Pepper spray
- Receipts
- First Aid Kit
- Battery bank / charging cables
Again, I don’t keep all of these things in here all of the time, but this gives you a idea of how much use I get out of this bad boy.
Once my wife got a flat tire at night time. I had recently gone night fishing and happened to place the head lamp in the backpack.
It sure came in handy changing that tire quickly and efficiently!
Bonus: One of the smartest items I can recommend keeping in your EDC (every day carry) bag is Pepto Bismol Tablets.
You can thank me later.
Conclusion
Hopefully you’ve found today’s post to be both insightful and interesting.
I look through my possessions often and ask myself :
If the answer is no, chances are I’m getting rid of it soon and very soon.
But I can gladly report that I would happily buy all 5 of these items all over again. I don’t regret them at all.
Until next time!
